Course Description
SB 472 (Reading and Mathematics Professional Development Institutes) is the legislation that funds and aligns professional development to State Board Adopted standards based curriculums to increase student achievement in reading/language arts and mathematics. (SB 472 was formerly AB 466.)

What is the Institute Content?
The five-day Reading/Language Arts Program specific institutes provide in depth training on how to fully implement the instructional program materials as well as the required overview of the research, state standards, and framework.

GATE SUMMER INSTITUTE

v The SCCOE GATE Certification Series is designed to assist districts, sites and teachers in meeting the provisions of Raising the Standards for Gifted and Talented Education AB2313 (Correa) July 1, 2001 and the guidance found in the State GATE Standards.

v The bill requires that programs for GATE pupils be planned and organized as an integrated differentiated learning experience within the regular school day, and may be augmented with other differentiated activities related to the core curriculum standards.

v The school district has a responsibility to clearly define requisite competencies for teachers in providing differentiated learning opportunities for GATE students. The district is required to implement a professional development plan for all teachers based on a needs assessment of teachers' needs relative to GATE students.

This day of technology planning information and writing is designed for districts and direct-funded charter school teams whose state-approved technology plans will either be expiring by June 30, 2009, or are interested in writing a plan for the first time.

CTAP Region V Grants Manager and team will guide district/charter teams in the essential components and key strategies for successful development of a

state-approved educational technology plan.

Participants will learn the approval process for regional and state reviews.

Morning Session: Focus is on the key elements, process and support materials to guide teams in either revising or newly writing their educational technology plan for state approval via the EETT Formula Grant Program.

Afternoon Session: Time for consultation and writing with the CTAP staff as your develop your plan.

This day will provide the necessary time, consultation, and support materials to participants, in addition to, a free web account within the "CTAP Region V Grants Resource Center" (Blackboard) to access various resources, templates, and samples for successful completion of your plan.

When registering, you will be asked to designate whether you will be attending either or both sessions in the day.
